About Haute Route (Chamonix–Zermatt)
The Walker's Haute Route runs from Chamonix to Zermatt, the benchmark hut-to-hut traverse of the western Alps, crossing from France into Switzerland. Swiss huts book through the shared Alpenverein system with live availability, while the French refuges are a mix of individual hut pages and the FFCAM system. The cross-border split is the main planning friction, so book the Swiss huts as early as the winter before your walk.
